Paula Deen’s job is toast. A Food Network spokesperson confirmed Friday that they are not renewing Deen’s contract when it expires at the end of this month.

The network’s announcement came after Deen posted a series of apology videos to YouTube, some of which were later taken down from the site. “I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong that I’ve done,” she said in one of the videos released on Friday. “I want to learn and grow from this. Inappropriate,  hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable.” She added, “I beg for your forgiveness.”

Earlier in the day, she was scheduled to appear on The Today Show but bailed on her appearance last-minute, citing exhaustion.

The celebrity chef has been under fire after admitting to using a racial slur, according to court documents that surfaced earlier in the week. The National Enquirer first obtained Deen’s deposition Wednesday, in which she responded to allegations of racism in the workplace–and admited to using the N-word and expressing a wish for a wedding served by waiters dressed as slaves.

The legal deposition was held on May 17 after one of Deen’s former restaurant managers, Lisa Jackson, sued the TV chef and her brother Earl “Bubba” Hiers for sexual and racial workplace discrimination in a $1.2 million lawsuit. During the three-hour-long questioning, Jackson’s lawyer asked Deen if she had ever used the N-word.

Deen responded, “Yes, of course,” and detailed the instances in which she had used the racial slur.

For most of us, work is a requirement. Until we uncover or create the opportunity that allows us to work our passion, we may be in a job that’s just, well… a job.

Accepting your 9-5 is just a job works fine until you finally start listening to your passion and purpose. Once you begin to acknowledge your purpose and feed your passion, your “day job” may begin to feel like a burden.

How To Be Happy At A Job You Hate

So, how do you make it through the 40+ hours a week without feeling like you are serving time for a crime you didn’t commit? Here are nine tips on how to be happy with your job:

1. Stay out of drama. Keep away from contentious people.

2. Initiate a new project. Tie it to a new skill you want to learn or practice.

3. Choose a better perspective. Look for opportunities and wins instead of shortcomings and faults.

4. Find a buddy. Research shows people that have friends at work have a higher rate of career satisfaction.

5. Learn something new. Read a book, read an article, take an on-line course. Find a way to get new information and let it inspire you.

6. Practice gratitude. Be grateful for what you do have and what you have the potential to create.

7. Stop talking about how bad things are. Lift the weight of your environment by speaking positively about your work, your co-workers, and your company.

8. Keep working towards your passion. Whether it is five hours or five minutes, find a way to incorporate what you are passionate about into your routine.

9. Get a life. If you are pouring all of yourself into work that’s not satisfying, create a better balance by adding more “extra-curricular” activities.

10. Start a home business.  Due to the economy, there are lots of people that are starting a home business for their Plan B or replacing their income altogether.

Bottom line: You don’t have to be miserable even if you are in a miserable job. Taking responsibility for creating your own happiness at work puts you back in the driver’s seat of your career where you belong.

Step 1

Locate your targeted prospects. Research where your targeted prospects spend their time online and offline. Depending on your resources, you may go after prospects through one source or multiple sources. For example, you could purchase a prospect list from a list broker of specific mailing lists such as SRDS (Standard Rate and Data Service). If you’re working with a smaller budget, you may decide to go after targeted prospects online through article marketing, forums and directories.

Step 2

Create your offer or hook to lead your website visitors to subscribe. Common incentives include a free report, free e-course or discounts for your products and services. Give your visitors a good reason to sign up to your list. It helps to develop an incentive that is related to your product or service.

Step 3

Set up your marketing funnel and marketing materials. If you’re creating an email subscriber list, then you’ll need to set up an auto-responder email series, as well as an opt-in form on a webpage to capture the subscriber’s email address. Be sure to test your email list signup process to make sure it’s working correctly. If you’re building a mailing list, you’ll need to create effective postcards or letters to send out to your subscribers in order to drive them to an online signup page.

Step 4

Reach out to your targeted prospects. If using direct mail, print the mailing information on your postcards or letters, pay for postage and send them out. This can be done through the U.S. Postal Service, a third-party service or by yourself. For email subscriber lists, launch your online marketing campaign through targeted channels. In order to drive targeted prospects to your email signup form, you may use blogs, guest posting to other blogs, forum marketing, social media and paid advertising.

Tall order isn’t it? Not at all. Have you ever heard: Know God – No Fear. Or you can’t worry and have faith at the same time.

So just for today practice the art of letting go all worry, fear based reactions, doubt and negative concern.

Each time something comes up for you that you find it difficult to focus on anything other than complete faith, stop! Re-focus your thoughts and energy. Take a deep cleansing breath and relax. Next picture the outcome exactly as you desire it to be. Hold that vision as long as you can. The worry will disappear. You may need to repeat this several times if you are not accustomed to projecting positive energy. The key point here is to remember to breathe and relax. Allow the negative emotions to leave your thoughts and your body.

This takes practice and consistency. We unfortunately live in a world based and motivated on fear, so to counteract the effects you must be deliberate in doing this. Do not allow other people to tell you how awful things are. Do not listen to the negative hype.

Decide to rid yourself of all self limiting beliefs and ideas. You can have all that you desire and more! Remain open to receiving the goodness and there it is for you. The Universe is awesome and will respond to you in kindness.

Today I release all worry and fear. I allow the Goodness and Grace of the Merciful Creator to penetrate my core. I feast on God’s promises today. I know I can. I, like my Father, are creators. I create Joy, Love, Harmony, Peace and Happiness.

Blogging for More Business

Nothing holds more weight than relevant information. Incorporating a blog into your website gives you a forum to post timely and relevant information to your site. Use a blog to add value to your website content by staying on top of current events relevant to your products and business. Become the subject-matter expert for your industry, and use your blog to deliver updates to visitors.

There are several blogging platforms you can choose from to get started: WordPress®, Text Pattern, b2evolution, take your pick. Just be sure to pick a platform that matches your skill set. If you know some coding and HTML, you’ll want software that supports custom coding. On the flip-side, if the Internet is still foreign territory for you, you should choose software that’s ideal for novice users.

Entice visitors by publishing thought-provoking — even controversial — content, and then gain added momentum by publicizing this content through social media outlets. One example is a top-10 list. Simply summarize your concept in 10 neat little bullets you’ve identified as the “best of the best.” You might even compel your readers to poke holes in your absolute findings.

Harness the power of comments on your blog. Engage your readers and respond to their comments. The more involved they are in your blog ecosystem, the more likely they are to return frequently and bring guests.
